Homework at midnight. The same argument on repeat. A kid who says he doesn't care. I'm a psychologist, and this is the work I do — with the student, and with parents when it helps.

Families reach out when some version of this has been going on for a while:
Most families who call have already tried consequences, taking the phone, and a tutor. Those aim at effort. My work starts a step earlier, with what's driving it.
Tell me what's going on. No paperwork, no commitment. We'll figure out together whether this calls for therapy or a different plan at home — and if I'm not the right fit, I'll say so and point you somewhere better.
By video, scheduled around school, practice, and work. Most of the work happens here: what's driving the stall, what they're avoiding, and what tends to help.
Sometimes the pattern lives in the house, not just in the kid, and some of it was never theirs alone to fix. How much you're involved is your call, and we'll decide it together rather than by default.
To be clear about what this is: therapy with a licensed psychologist, not tutoring, academic coaching, or college admissions help. If what you need is one of those, I'll tell you on the first call.
This is the most common reason families never call, so start without them. Parents can take the first call alone, and often the first few sessions too. There's usually plenty to work on with the adults in the house while a teenager decides whether he's willing.
Pushing a kid into a session he's refusing rarely gets far. Changing what happens around him is usually where there's more room to work.
This is a private practice, not a clinic or an app. Sessions are 50 minutes, by video, and paid at the time of service.
Many plans reimburse out-of-network: I can submit the claim for you or provide a superbill you send in yourself. Bring your plan to the free call and we'll check what yours actually does.
Insurance may cover all, part, or none of the cost depending on your plan, and some plans reimburse nothing. If you're not using insurance, you'll get a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before we start, and you can request one at any time.
For clients under 18, a parent or guardian consents to treatment, and state law gives parents certain rights to information about that treatment. Those rules differ between California and Tennessee, so we'll go over the ones that apply to you. Either way, we'll talk early about what stays between me and your teen and where the limits are, because being straight about that up front is what makes the sessions worth anything to them.
I'm Rob Rouault, a licensed psychologist with eleven years in practice, licensed in California (PSY 31401) and Tennessee (4146). I trained at Pepperdine and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. My work is practical and direct: figure out what's actually going on, then do something about it.
Sessions are by video, which means no drive, no waiting room, and times that fit around a school and work week.
A few openings this fall. Tell me what's going on and we'll figure out where to start.
